Pattison leads after first day of 2025 PWBA Regional Showdown

SANFORD, Fla. – After eight games of qualifying and the first round of match play Friday, Maranda Pattison of Redwood Valley, California, leads the Professional Women’s Bowling Association Regional Showdown at Airport Lanes in Sanford, Florida, heading into the next match-play round.

The day began with an eight-game qualifying round to determine the 10 players who would fill the remainder of the 18-person match-play field, joining eight regional champions from 2025 who earned automatic berths.

Those 10 bowlers include Alyssa Ferraro of Deltona, Florida; Ashly Galante of Palm Harbor, Florida; Maryssa Carey of Hobart, Indiana; Crystal Elliott of Palm Bay, Florida; Kimberly Newell of DeLand, Florida; Megan Duff of Vandalia, Ohio; Haley Youker of Erie, Pennsylvania; Sydney Brummett of Fort Wayne, Indiana; Madison Colston of Largo, Florida; and Kerry Smith of Lititz, Pennsylvania.

They joined Canada’s Mykaela Hunter; Brooke Roberts of Port Orange, Florida; Kara Mangiola of Kenmore, New York; Brittany Smith of Adel, Iowa; Summer Jasmin of Beckley, West Virginia; Kayla Pashina of Otsego, Minnesota; and Pattison in the field for round-robin match play.

Pattison earned her spot in the showdown in November after winning the PWBA Myrtle Beach Regional for her first PWBA title and has kept the momentum rolling into Airport Lanes. She ended the day with four wins on the 39-foot oil condition, including three straight wins at the end, shooting 235, 269 and 248 the last three games to put herself at the top of the standings with a grand total of 1,470.

“I feel like I started with too much surface at the beginning of the day before switching to a weaker bowling ball and moving left,” said Pattison. “I was able to move far enough left and have a little hold left and a little hook right, giving me more room to miss.”

At the 2024 Regional Showdown, Pattison had to qualify for match play and was able to finish in sixth place, but not having to bowl those extra games have helped her enter the 2025 event more relaxed.

“Last year felt like I had to bowl a lot of games, so to have a secured spot helped me relax and feel more refreshed,” Pattison said. “To win this would mean a lot to me and be a dream come true. I could go out on the national tour and not have that financial burden.”

Pattison is in a good position to at least make the stepladder if she continues bowling as well as she has, although the rest of the top four is not far behind with 12 games to go on Friday. Newell holds second at 1,452, and Lukosius is third at 1,431. The fourth and final spot into the stepladder belongs to Hunter at 1,409.

Jasmin, Kerry Smith, Brittany Smith, Carey and Mangiola are within 40 pins of fourth place, and anything can happen in 12 match-play games where each win equals 30 bonus pins.

After the final two rounds of match play Saturday at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Eastern, the top four will advance to the stepladder finals at 7 p.m. Eastern for the top cash prize, title and ability to have all 2026 PWBA National Tour entry fees covered (excluding the SABC Mixed Doubles event). All rounds will stream live on BowlTV.
