Nebraska grad Kuhlkin headlines PWBA Lincoln Open field
LINCOLN, Nebraska - Fresh off her victory at the Professional Women's Bowling Association Topeka Open, recently graduated University of Nebraska star Liz Kuhlkin will headline a field of the best female bowlers in the world at the PWBA Lincoln Open this week.
Kuhlkin, who led the Huskers to national titles in 2013 and 2015, will be joined in the sold-out field by several other Nebraska stars at Sun Valley Lanes.
The players will take part in 12 games of qualifying Friday before the top 16 advance to round-robin match play Saturday. The event concludes with the stepladder finals at 6:30 p.m. Central on Saturday. All rounds will be broadcast live on Xtra Frame.
"I have been excited to bowl the Lincoln stop all summer," said Kuhlkin, a three-time first-team All-American for the Huskers. "It's going to be great to be back there with all the Huskers fans on the soil I spent the last four years of my life on."
Other past Nebraska standouts who will compete in the PWBA Lincoln open include Diandra Asbaty of Chicago, Shannon Pluhowsky of Dayton, Ohio, Kayla Johnson of Washington, Illinois, Lindsay Boomershine of Perry, Utah, Cassandra Leuthold of Black Hawk, South Dakota, Erin McCarthy of Omaha, Nebraska, Elise Bolton of Merritt Island, Florida, and Kristi Mickelson of Bellevue, Nebraska.
The PWBA Tour ceased operations in 2003 and has been rejuvenated this year thanks to the support from the bowling industry. The PWBA Lincoln Open is one of 11 events being held this season.
