SOUTH GLENS FALLS, N.Y. – Brooke Roberts of Port Orange, Florida, won her first Professional Women’s Bowling Association event Sunday evening at the 2025 PWBA Albany Regional at Kingpin’s Alley Family Fun Center in South Glens Falls, New York.
The right-handed Roberts started qualifying slow with a 169, but found her groove and finished with 1,761, qualifying as the No. 1 seed for the stepladder finals.
“I was in the wrong ball (the first game) and went to a newer ball that I drilled up just this week,” said Roberts. “It worked out good, I was able to move left and stay inside to have hold and room; when I have that, I feel a lot more confident in my shots and repeatability.”
Roberts would need to hold on to that confidence as her opponent ended up being three-time PWBA Regional champion Karsyn Lukosius of Freehold, New Jersey, who qualified second and advanced to the title match after defeating Suzanne Morine of Castleton of Hudson, New York, in the semifinals, 197-153,
Roberts started the title match with a double, but two straight opens after threatened to keep her in a hole she might not be able to dig out of with Lukosius clean through four frames. The two competitors went strike-for-strike in frames five through seven as Lukosius was pushing for her fourth PWBA Regional title, but Roberts was not going to go down quietly.
An opening for Roberts appeared in the eighth frame after Lukosius left a 7 pin and converted the single pin spare, before Roberts took advantage with her fifth straight strike since her open in the fourth. It was up to Lukosius to put the pressure on Roberts as she ended the match first.
In the ninth frame, a great shot by Lukosius went a hair high for the 4-9 split, which she was unable to convert but still had a chance to force Roberts to mark if Lukosius struck out in the 10th frame. Lukosius got the first one, however a 10 pin saw the hopes of a fourth regional win essentially dashed away, finishing with 205 and Roberts needed to only now get good count to win.
Roberts’ own 10 pin in the first shot of the final frame was enough and a strike put the finishing touch on a great day for her, ending the match with 222 and leaving Kingpin’s Alley Family Fun Center with the title, $1,600 top prize and an automatic berth into the PWBA Regional Showdown in December. Lukosius earned $800 for her runner-up finish.
For Roberts, winning far exceeded her expectations as she was looking to get her feet wet in PWBA competition before potentially making the jump to the National Tour in 2026.
“I just stayed focus on myself today,” Roberts said. “I know Karsyn is a really good bowler and she is capable of winning…so I just wanted to worry about myself, throw good shots and be proud of myself.”
Roberts has plenty to be proud of, with the potential for more down the line if she is able to claim the Regional Showdown title, which comes with all entry fees paid for on the 2026 PWBA National Tour.
“(Winning Regional Showdown) would be a lot, it’d be easier for me finance-wise,” said Roberts, who wanted to compete full-time on the National Tour in 2025 but is currently unable to. “It just didn’t work out so I’m going to go out on the Regional Tour and do a few stops on the National Tour later this year. I really wanted to focus on myself and have a good support system and get my legs underneath me.”
Roberts’ support system was in attendance as her mom was in the building while her dad and other family members watched on BowlTV, who she thanked immediately following her win.
Morine earned $600 for her third-place finish and made it to the semifinal match after defeating Janelle Scaccia of Voorheesville, New York, in the opening match, 182-167. Scaccia earned $500 for fourth.
The next PWBA Regional, the Eastern Pennsylvania Regional, will be April 12 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, at Steel City Bowl and Brews.
